Alex Morgan scored four goals as the Orlando Pride kicked off its preseason with an 8-0 victory over Eastern Florida State College on Saturday at Titan Soccer Complex.
“Any time we can get out and get a competitive 11-versus-11 game, it’s always valuable to us and it helps the general cohesion of the team,” Pride head coach Tom Sermanni said. “Players are getting used to each other, players are getting used to what other players do around them, and that’s been really beneficial today.”
Kristen Edmonds tallied two goals while Monica Hickmann Alves and Allie Wisener also scored for Orlando. Sarah Hagen finished with two assists.
The Pride plays the University of Florida on Tuesday in a closed-door game.
OCB closes preseason
With the start of the 2016 USL season just days away, Orlando City B finished its preseason with a 1-0 loss to Eastern Florida State College.
“Obviously the result isn’t ideal, but I’ve just told the players you sometimes get easily sidetracked by results and it can cloud your thoughts and emotions after a game,” OCB head coach Anthony Pulis said. “I thought our performance today was really good, especially the second half. I thought we moved the ball really well. The pleasing thing from my point of view was the amount of chances we created.”
JJ Donnelly of Eastern Florida scored the lone goal at the 55th-minute mark.
Orlando City B will play its home games of the 2016 USL season at Titan Soccer Complex, located at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla. OCB welcomes the Wilmington Hammerheads in the season-opener on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m.
