A hat-trick performance from Stefano Pinho lifted Miami FC to a 3-1 win over Orlando City on Wednesday night to advance the NASL club to fifth round of the U.S. Open Cup in front of an announced attendance of 5,838 at Orlando City Stadium.
“Miami was clearly the better team and they deserve a tremendous amount of respect, as disappointed as we are and as difficult as that is to say,” Orlando City coach Jason Kreis said. “I take 100 percent responsibility for the result and for the performance.”
Pinho opening the scoring for Miami after finishing a cross from Michael Lahoud in the 30th minute. Pinho scored again in the 36th minute after heading a ball from Hunter Freeman past Orlando City goalkeeper Josh Saunders. The Brazilian secured his third goal in the 55th minute.
Orlando City midfielder Giles Barnes scored Orlando’s only goal in the 79th minute.
“[It’s] gotta hurt us deep down, [it’s] gonna play in our minds for a couple of days,” Barnes said. “It’s our fault, it wasn’t good enough.”
Orlando City will play again on Saturday, against the Montreal Impact at the Orlando City stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
