With the season winding down, and time running out on his current contract that’s set to expire at the end of the year, Ricardo Kaka said he plans to continue playing for Orlando City in 2018.

The Brazilian star told reporters on Wednesday his intentions to continue playing another year with the Lions, casting away doubts on his future at the end of the year.

“That’s my ideal principle. My first idea is to continue here, renew with Orlando, but I’m still focused on this year and on what we can do,” said Kaka in Spanish. “We have experience from the first year where we closed the season with consecutive victories, and that’s what I’m telling the boys, if it was possible in the first year, it’s more than possible in the third year. We’re more experienced, we know how the league is, we know what we’re up against now… it’s still possible.”

With nine games left to the regular season, Orlando City is currently fighting for a spot in the postseason, but sit five points away from the last playoff spot, currently occupied by the Montreal Impact.

Also, the Lions are currently in a bad form, with only two wins in their last 18 games, Kaka and Co. hope to snap its bad run of games when it host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at Orlando City Stadium.

Kaka has played in 69 league matches for Orlando City with 17 league appearances this year with the Lions. The Brazilian has scored 22 goals since joining the club for the 2015 MLS season.
