Orlando City looks to rebound after falling at home to Atlanta United

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Orlando City SC

Orlando City’s six-game winning streak came to an utter conclusion Sunday night during a 2-1 loss to Atlanta United.

For Justin Meram, however, last night’s result is a thing of the past and the club should be focusing on its next winning run.

“We saw a lot of quality. We saw how they dictated the tempo,” said Meram after Sunday’s game. “They’re very good at passing and moving. We’ll watch the film and learn from it.”

“It’s one game. We won six, we lost one. Let’s get back to winning another six in a row and we won’t even be talking about this game soon,” added Meram.

Meram scored his first goal for Orlando City in the 57th minute, but said he would have taken the three points in favor of scoring his first goal since arriving to the club in the offseason.

“At the end of the day, I would rather win instead of scoring,” said Meram. “Obviously I want to score and help the team, but I want to win that’s the main focus of this group. Maybe I should have scored two tonight and I think I had another chance as well.”

For head coach Jason Kreis, Orlando’s loss at home served as a reminder on what the team needs to really look like especially when going up against quality opponents.

“The biggest part of tonight is just the emotions that are involved in the game,” said Kreis. “We had some things with the players, reactions to the referees, reactions to their players. I think it’s important that we continue to improve on those aspects and we continue to remind ourselves of who we are. And also remind ourselves that we’re capable of playing better than that, but also that we need to improve.”

The Lions take on Toronto FC on Friday at BMO Field at 8 p.m. The match will broadcast locally on WRDQ 27 and ESPN+.
