Another end of an era came Friday afternoon as Orlando City announced that the club has agreed to part ways with Head Coach Jason Kreis. Along with Kreis, assistant coaches CJ Brown and Miles Joseph agreed to both leave the club by mutual decision.

Much like in 2016 after the departure of longtime Head Coach Adrain Heath, Assistant Coach Bobby Murphy will take over the team until a permanent replacement is hired.

After just under two years in charge of the Lions, Kreis went 21-29-13 as manager in his 63 games as manager. In comparison, Adrian Heath was let go after 50 games in charge, amassing a 16-18-16 record.

It was a tale of two seasons for Jason Kreis’ team in 2018. After the club recorded an MLS record six-game winning early in the season, Orlando followed it up losing six straight, most recently falling 3-0 to the Montreal Impact this past Wednesday. Despite the losing streak, the team still sit sixth in the Eastern Conference and above the red line in the playoff race.

“This is a very difficult decision to take,” Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão said in a press release. “But sometimes in sports we must make tough decisions with the best future of the organization in mind. I have enormous respect for Jason and the work his team did in Orlando. He arrived in a difficult moment and is leaving with a legacy of respect and professionalism. Now is the time to look forward, keep our heads high, and continue pushing toward the many goals we set this season.”

Orlando will now take on the challenge of finding their third coach in their short MLS history, as they conduct a “comprehensive search” for their new Head Coach.
